In a German zoo, a pair of ‘homosexual’ male penguins, had won their chance to adopt an egg. The egg was fertilised by a pair of heterosexual penguins, but for unknown reasons have decided to kick out one of their eggs. The particular egg was then given to the homosexual male penguins, Z and Vielpunkt, who faithfully took care of the egg and brought the chick to life.

As astonshing as the news would sound, this is not unusual in the animal kingdom. In the case of penguins, both female and male take turns to look after their young. There is no specific motherly or fatherly figures in the upbringing of the penguins.

A Mistle Thrush has displayed her strong maternal instincts for her young by puffing herself up to dedicated herself to prevent her chicks from drowning. The thrush has built her nest in a downpipe, hence during rain, its nest would be flooded and her chicks would possibly be drowned.

The female thrush has entrusted herself with duty to protect her young, so much so that she puffed herself up to twice the size of the male thrush to act as a dam in the downpipe. In her peseverance, the duty of feeding the young was left to the father.

A 35-year-old Bavarian woman from Mindelheim thought of a new way of making money — providing match-making service for depressed parrots. However match-maker was just a guise, her real method of making money was convinced the parrot owners across Germany that their pets were feeling blue and should sent to her to find a soul partner. She claimed that she had a flock of potential parrot partners and the parrots had the freedom to choose their own spouse. The owners from the Augsburg area, Günzburg, Nuremberg, from Baden-Württemberg and even all the way from Berlin were convinced and sent her their pets. She sold the received parrots, which was more than 40 of them, for a price between €400 and €2,000 each. She had made more than €20,000 in this fake match-making service. The birds did not find their true love, and the woman was arrested.
