Molly the Giraffe Nursed With Cow’s Milk

Molly was born at Southwick Zoo in Mendon, Massachusetts. Its mother could not produce milk by her own, so the veterinarians nursed the 3-day-old calf with cow’s milk. The baby giraffe was currently at the Hospital for Large Animals, which was part of the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. The 3-day-old giraffe was 5 feet tall and weighed 86 pounds. Dr. Daniela Bedenice said the animal is still at risk for infection as cow’s milk was substituted for giraffe’s milk which contained vital antibodies.
